Have you heard that the Nintendo Company is planning the release of a second-generation Wii gaming console? If you’re like most people, chances are you have, but you may have questions such as: “What exactly is the Nintendo Wii 2?” “What will it look like?” and “What new functions will it have compared to the original Wii that Nintendo released? These are all good questions, and although there have been many rumors and a mass of speculation on the subject, unfortunately nobody will know for certain until the product is officially announced next month in Los Angeles.
Nevertheless, in this article we will do our best to describe what we do know about the Nintendo Wii 2, including some of the potential changes that promise to significantly improve your gaming experience.
What Exactly Is the Nintendo Wii 2?
By now you are all familiar with the Nintendo Wii—an interactive gaming console that allows players to be part of the action. This type of gaming system, which was truly revolutionary for its time when released in 2006, helped Nintendo enjoy skyrocketing sales and profits for the first few years following the product’s release. However, over the past year or so, sales of the original Wii have dropped off sharply, and Nintendo’s profits have been reduced by over 65 percent.
Clearly, it was time for something new.
The Nintendo Wii 2 is the company’s latest attempt to draw in a new generation of interactive gamers, and although the technical details of the console won’t be known with certainty until the product is officially announced at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles next month, the gaming community is already abuzz with rumors regarding the potential improvements we might see with the Nintendo Wii 2.
One of the things we do know for sure about the Nintendo Wii 2 is that there will be some fairly radical changes. This fact was pretty much confirmed by Nintendo’s chief executive officer when he was quoted last month as saying that the Nintendo Wii 2 (this name is not official yet) “will offer a new way of playing games within the home.” Although vague, this quote has prompted some digging and was the genesis for plenty of rumors among gaming insiders–insiders who now believe we can expect the following upgrades and more with the Nintendo Wii 2 system:
- Gaming in High Definition (The old Wii does not support HD)
- New and improved motion sensors, comparable to those of the Xbox Kinect and Play Station Move
- Full integration with mobile gaming
- Revamped main controller that will include a 6” tablet-like touch screen that can be run wirelessly
- And much more…
Along with the expected hardware changes, you can also expect that the Nintendo Wii 2 will offer a new generation of interactive games and a whole new way to play them.
